Exterior

Outdoor lighting is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to add beauty and security to your home. Weather-resistant fixtures are available to highlight landscape features, provide security and allow you to enjoy your patio / garden into the evening.

Many outdoor products are available in a variety of styles both modern and traditional to complement your home's decor. Using coordinating collections to carry a style throughout your home's exterior can create a dramatic and visually pleasing look.

Wall and ceiling lights are a great way to highlight architectural features, illuminate doorways, entertaining spaces and entrance areas while creating a soft atmosphere to make guests feel welcome.

Floodlights offer the benefit of safety and security when lighting a stairway, dark garage or entry. Installing motion sensors or timers is a great security option to customize when and how lights turn on and off. They can help discourage intruders and automatically light the way for you and your family when you return home after dark.

Exterior lights are available in a wide selection of styles as well as materials such as; die cast aluminium with either a powder coat or brushed chrome finish, polycarbonate plastic, anodised aluminium, copper and stainless steel.

Care in the selection of luminaries for different applications will avoid problems and disappointment. For example high wind exposure, pollution levels and temperatures as well as strong marine environments are all factors which can increase corrosion rates on many external materials.

Die Cast Aluminium products are one of the most versatile and cost effective options for lighting your exterior. Available in a range of finishes and powder coat colours, die cast products are suitable for a variety of modern and contemporary homes. However, their corrosion rate is much faster than superior materials such as stainless steel, copper and anodised aluminium.

Stainless steel and anodised aluminium features as the main metals of many external grade light fittings. Many recognise stainless as an intrinsically attractive material, but these fittings do require some maintenance. Stainless steel, anodised aluminium and copper products have an excellent reputation for enduring a long appearance and structural integrity. However, like all materials without appropriate maintenance these products can become stained or discoloured over time. The brown discolouration which can appear on stainless steel products is referred to as ‘tea staining’.

Tea staining can be defined as discolouration of the material surface, however not affecting the structural integrity or the longevity of the product.

Tea staining occurs most commonly within 10-15 kilometres of the ocean and becomes progressively worse closer to any marine source. Grade 316 stainless or highly polished anodised aluminium products should be selected for more aggressive marine environments, and the less rigorous grades such as 304 or 202 for properties further inland.

Stainless and anodised aluminium surfaces thrive with frequent cleaning, a soft cloth with or without gentle detergent should always be the first choice for mild stains, loose dirt and chlorides (salts). With regular cleaning and maintenance, your exterior products should always look as good as new.

Alternatively, polycarbonate plastic exterior lighting has very little maintenance. Designed with a solid thermo-plastic construction, a high resistance to corrosion and UV stabilised to last in all environments. Polycarbonate lighting is available in a wide selection of colour choices and designs, ranging from bollards, wall brackets and ceiling mount fittings; Making polycarbonate plastic lighting a very popular choice for many situations.
